“Companies are not only missing out on the potential for improved business results from their people’s lack of professional growth, but the company’s employees are also missing out on the improved quality of life that comes with professional growth. It’s a lose–lose situation.”

The phrase “everyone is replaceable”, albeit technically true, may have been taken too far over the last 15 years or so in the workforce.

Too many companies are foregoing training and talent development and looking straight to the recruiter to find someone else as soon as the current skillset doesn’t match the immediate need.

This has created a two-way disloyalty. The companies are quick to replace workers and workers aren’t counting on sticking with the company for long.

Great companies and employees make a mutual long-term commitment to one another as long as people are willing and able to grow with the ever-evolving needs of the business.

That being said, companies need the capability to train and develop people at the speed of demand. This training keeps people ahead of the game – and thus the company stays ahead as well.
